A rare opportunity is upon us. Imagine a land owner with a stewardship ethic so strong he is willing to forgo millions of dollars, and a land trust willing to expand their area of expertise, both working together to secure a conservation easement on 236 acres of agricultural and wild lands within Edmonton City limits!
The Edmonton and Area Land Trust (EALT) will hold this legal tool, which requires a baseline data report, a real estate report, and a stewardship plan to ensure future owners forever respect the vision.
Donations are needed for the EALT's Securement Campaign for Edmonton Agricultural Lands to cover the front end costs involved in setting up the conservation easement.
Doug Visser, the present owner, is determined to protect these lands for future generations and has committed to matching donations up to $10,000 - and this is in addition to the $70,000 he has already matched which is being used for the stewarding endowment.
If 1000 local food loving, nature loving, social justice loving Edmontonians could each donate $30, then as a group, we could help the EALT secure the conservation easement!
Or mail cheques payable to The Edmonton Community Foundation (memo: EALT Agricultural Fund) and send to: 9910-103 Street NW, Edmonton AB T5K 2V7
