Frequently Asked Questions

Who is FYRE?

FYRE is people from neighbourhoods across Northeast Edmonton who care about social justice working together to serve local food banks. It is a community-run initiative, based in neighbourhoods across Edmonton. The founder is Kelly, coordinator of the Lady Flower Gardens initiative with a similar mission, which has donated an average of 25,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Edmonton Food Bank per year for the last 15 years.)

Why should I join FYRE?

This is a community-centred project working to serve others. It is emotionally rewarding and fulfilling to work to counteract food insecurity. If you are a person who cares about social justice, helping those in need, and promoting community and neighbourly care, this project is for you.

What do I get out of FYRE?

Being a part of FYRE would bring feelings of accomplishment and peace in the fight against food insecurity in our city. FYRE Gardeners will also participate in learning gardening techniques and sharing knowledge. As a fun bonus, while most of the food will go straight to the food bank, there will be produce that the homeowners can use for themselves!
